Growing Scholars with Servant Hearts Since 1929

Mission

Rooted in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Mount Sacred Heart Catholic School nurtures each student’s spiritual and academic development within a faith-filled community—growing compassionate scholars and servant leaders of integrity and service.

Vision

Mount Sacred Heart will be a leader in Catholic education focused on academic excellence, spiritual growth, and community service. Our vision calls us to remain committed to:

Strong Catholic Identity
Exemplary Education for All
Diverse Enrichment Opportunities
Engaged Mount Sacred Heart Community
Compassionate Community Service and Outreach
Long-term Growth and Sustainability

Core Values

Community

The Community of Mount Sacred Heart generates a spirit of belonging. It welcomes all and invites all community members to share their gifts so that Christ may be known and His love may be experienced, expressed, and shared.

Compassion

Compassion is an attitude of the heart that accepts everyone with unconditional love and empathy. It generates a willingness to be near others in their brokenness and present to them in challenges. It moves us to take risks to ensure human dignity.

Integrity

Integrity is seen in the authenticity of our day-to-day living. We strive to be who we say we are, matching our actions to our Christian values.

Service

Service is an extension of our compassion, understanding that all we have received is not ours alone. Service reaches out to bring about wholeness in others.

Philosophy

Mount Sacred Heart believes that parents are the primary educators of their children. We believe the cooperative partnership between parents and the school fosters a communal vision that integrates Catholic educational excellence and the Gospel values of community, compassion, integrity, and service.

The belief in the dignity of each person calls us to cultivate the minds and hearts of students to develop spiritual, intellectual, personal, social, and physical endowments through an enriched program that fosters leadership and service. We believe the message of God’s love and tenderness for humanity empowers students to be compassionate learners within a global society.

Our History

Sr. Rose of Lima Gonzalez is credited for her instrumental role in the early establishment of the first little school which began in the Sisters' Convent. She, and the Sisters that accompanied her, are acclaimed for laying the foundation for the School's growth and reputation of distinguished excellence.

1940
In 1940 a Boys' Military School opened for boarding and day students (K-8th grades). Thus came into existence the now famed Mount Sacred Heart School.

1955
To further assist parents in the education of the whole family, Mount Sacred Heart Girls' School was opened for boarding and day students (K-8th grades). Sr. Agnes Marie Jouvence, SSCJ served as its first Mother Superior.

1973
Mount Sacred Heart introduced an early childhood Montessori Program to serve children 2 1/2 through 5 years of age, housed at the Boys' School. The Montessori philosophy of nurturing independence and cultivating all aspects of a child's development remains a valued part of the School.

1987
Mount Sacred Heart returned to its original coed founding.

Today
Mount Sacred Heart continues to build on its rich history and legacy under the direction of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Sacred Heart of Jesus

O most holy Heart of Jesus, foundation of every blessing, I adore You, I love You, and with lively sorrow for my sins, I offer You this poor heart of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to Your will. Grant, good Jesus, that I may live in You and for You. Protect me in the midst of danger, comfort me in my afflictions; give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs, Your blessings on all that I do, and the grace of the holy death. Amen.
