Our History

Sr. Rose of Lima Gonzalez is credited for her instrumental role in the early establishment of the first little school which began in the Sisters' Convent. She, and the Sisters that accompanied her, are acclaimed for laying the foundation for the School's growth and reputation of distinguished excellence. In 1940 a Boys' Military School opened for boarding & day students (K-8th grades) - thus came into existence the now famed Mount Sacred Heart School.

In 1955, to further assist parents in the education of the whole family, Mount Sacred Heart Girls' School was opened for boarding and day students (K-8th grades). Sr. Agnes Marie Jouvence, SSCJ served as its first Mother Superior.

In 1973 Mount Sacred Heart introduced an early childhood Montessori Program (to serve children 2 1/2 - 5 years of age) housed at the Boys' School. The unique Montessori philosophy of nurturing independence and cultivating all aspects of the child's development remains a very popular facet of the School.

In 1987 Mount Sacred Heart returned to its original Coed Founding.

Today, Mount Sacred Heart continues to build on its rich history and legacy under the direction of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
